Requirements
What you need to have to use Fun-o-Matic in your cybercafe.
- First, you need to have a cybercafe!
- Your stations (PCs used by customers) must be running Microsoft Windows XP. Fun-o-Matic may work with other versions of Windows, but it wasn't designed for them, nor tested on them. (Sadly, very few games run well under Linux at present, so there really isn't any alternative to this).
- You need a server running Linux (any version and distribution should do, but our testing thus far has been with Fedora), along with Apache (again, any recent version) MySQL, and Perl (versions 5.8 and later). You'll need to have sufficient permissions on this server to allow you to install Perl-based software, change the Apache configuration, and create cron jobs.
- You will need to install a number of Perl modules from the Comprehensive Perl Archive Network (CPAN) onto your server. (Further down the road we hope to automate this process).
- At the moment, unfortunately, you will also need to have enough technical expertise so that you are comfortable with basic Linux system administration. Fun-o-Matic presently consists of a number of modules without an integrated installer, so until we create one, you have to be prepared to get your hands dirty.
